Quiet Works

Smile (2007) is part of a series of Quiet Works, artistic interventions that play with the form of the exhibition space itself. In this case, the simple rope barrier is not protecting the work, it forms the work itself. Through the act of titling the piece, Lees calls our attention to the form of the rope, which is precisely the same shape as the symbol for a smile.
