When We Were Young - Opening talk with Wendy McMurdo at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery and accompanying group show of the same name ( 14th Oct - 13th May 2018)

On the 1st November 2017 I delivered the Keynote Lecture to open the group exhibition ‘When We were Young’ at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery

This key note presentation launched 'the second in a series of thematic photography exhibitions…. documenting the experience and representation of childhood to coincide with Scotland’s Year of the Young Person 2018.

I was part too of the the accompanying exhibition of the same name, exhibiting three works, all of which are now in the public collection of the National Galleries of Scotland (illustration of three works provided).

‘When We were Young’ ran from 14th Oct – 13th May 2018 and generated significantly high audience numbers during its run. This large group show was ‘the second in a series of thematic photography exhibitions…. documenting the experience and representation of childhood to coincide with Scotland’s Year of the Young Person 2018. Using photographs from the permanent collection of the National Galleries of Scotland, When We Were Young explored not only how the experience of childhood has changed over the years, but also how the portrayal of children has shifted too. Featuring daguerreotypes from the 1840s to digital prints from 2017.’
