Abstract / Summary

"The Encyclopaedia of British Women’s Writing" gathers together, for the first time, research on women writers working in journalism and radio, as well as writing literary fiction, and is a ground breaking study, in this respect. It includes contributions from – leading academics working in literary studies and women’s history, and is produced by one of the leading academic publishers in the field. Hackney's essays on commercial women’s magazines, include women who wrote editorial and fiction. Leonora Eyles, in particular, is a highly significant figure about whom little has been written and who worked as a novelist, a journalist (agony aunt for a number popular women’s magazines) and who wrote polemical works. The short essay on The Society of Women Writers & Journalists, similarly breaks new ground, foreground important group about which little is published academically.
